How far is the walk? The 10 mins is around 0.65 km (1k steps), and the full hour is around 4km (6k steps. Approx 2.5 miles).
Where do you meet? At the bench by the bus stop at the car entrance to the car park (photo shown above).
What should I bring to the walk? You don't need anything, but water is recommended. Also we would suggest to bring a hat, gloves and scalf on cold days. An umbrella on rainy days.
What should I wear? We would recommended thin layers of comfortable clothes so you can take some off if needed.
Do I need special shoes? No. Comfort is key. We usually stick to hard surfaces so trainers or any regular shoes are suitable.
Do you walk in the rain/snow? Usually yes. Bring along a waterproof coat. Any cancellations will be notified in our members WhatsApp group.
Can I bring my dog/pushchair/Wheelchair? Yes. The first smaller loop is on pavements and has no roads to cross. The 2nd larger loop is usually on country roads.
Are there any toilets nearby? Yes there are free public toilets at the meeting car park.
Can children or vulnerable adults join alone? Sorry no. 18-years-old can join.
Are there any cafes and shops nearby? On the walk we go past several shops and cafes. The nearest to the car park is the off licence out the car park to the left, over the road. The cafe would be be left out the car park, up the little hill and Willows is on the left down the hill and it's dog friendly. The Dog and Partridge is also there on the right serving a full restaurant menu and is dog friendly in the bar area. A little down the hill is also another nice cafe bar called No 12 at the courtyard, dogs can't go in, but you can sit outside with them. The same set up at Bistrot Max at the bottom of the hill in the shopping courtyard. The Castle Cafe is also open, located on the road towards Hatton, which serves great value drinks and snacks.
Will there be any hills? Yes there is some gradients, however we slow down and take them as slow as everyone needs to. Full inclines shown on the image above.
What is the usual route? Footbaths and country roads, as shown on the above map. On dry summer days we may change the route around the fields below of Tutbury Castle, and the River Dove (noted in advance in our WhatsApp group).
I'm a fast walker, is this group for me? No. We take our time and focus on walking as a group.
I'm looking to hike and go through hills, is this group for me? No. We focus on hard safe surfaces.
